Balloon Tutorial & Help / Re: Basic Rabbit Tutorial

Repeat another 4 finger bubble for the other cheek and twist into the same pinch twist

Twist a very small 1 finger bubble for the neck.

The rest of the balloon has to be divided into five sections. These will vary with everyone depending on the pressure you've put onto the balloon while twisting but your looking for the next four bubbles to be approx 3 fingers each in length for the bunny's arms and legs, these are wrapped around the bottom of the neck bubble.

Now we're looking for 5 finger length to be left on the balloon so that the body of the balloon can be 4 fingers in length with a 1 finger bubble for the tail. The tail bubble is twisted between bubbles 2 and 3 that were used for the arms and legs.

"TOP TIPS"
If you run out of balloon when making the bunny, with your next attempt put slightly less air into the ballloon.
Another trick is to run your hand firmly all the way down the length of the balloon when it's inflated which will stretch the balloon making it a few inches longer.
To get a bend onto the ears, rub your hand over the back of the ears to warm the balloon while also separating the ears and pulling the top of the ears down towards the pinch twist that holds the ears in place. You get a slight separation between the two ears and a slight curve forward.

The ears are two 4 finger bubbles twisted into the pinch twist, from this pinch twist you will need another 3 finger bubble for the other side of the top of the head and twist into the first pinch twist that you made behind the nose.

You then need a soft 4 finger fold twist for a cheek.
(to get a soft bubble squeeze some of the air along into the tail of the balloon, but not too much)

A fold twist, loop twist are again exactly the same twist, instructions are here;

Inflate a Sempertex 260 modelling balloon so that you have a 6/7 finger un-inflated tail.

You start by twisting a 3 finger nose bubble followed by a 1 finger pinch twist.

The next bubble will be one side of the top of the head where later you can draw the eye onto, this twist should be 3 fingers followed by another 1 finger pinch twist which will help to push the ears forward so improving the look of your bunny.

A pinch twist or ear twist are the same and instructions can be found here for them;

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Instruction Section Area

Have put all 16 twists & folds etc up in the new balloon tutorial & help section,
viewforum.php?f=25

looking for a guinea pig who is a novice with the different techniques to see if from the instructions they can understand & perhaps have a go at the different techniques to see if the instructions are clear or need improving upon.

Have also added a basic dog tutorial so if anyone has a partner that is not a twister could they try & attempt the dog with the written instructions to see if they are clear enough for an absolute begineer.

We will put up six basic tutorials to start with and then all of them with the twists & techniques will be put onto a new page to be built onto the home news page so that it will help with the search engines & perhaps pull in new people to the forum who are looking to take up balloon modelling as a hobby or for a bit of fun. As we all know that it's very addictive & when they start there will be no stopping them.

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Re: Basic Dog Tutorial

And then hopefully you've twisted your very first dog that looks similar to the diagram :D

Please don't worry if they are not too similar as we all put different amounts of pressure onto the balloon when twisting, the more you make the model and the more experience twisting different animals the more you will get the feel for balloon modelling. But please be warned as it's very addictive ;)

"TOP TIP"
If you make the dog as above it is relatively easy for someone to untwist the dog.
So to over come this when making the dog push the nose through the ear fold twist, the body through the front leg fold twist and the tail through the back leg fold twist so locking everything in place. Some instructions that may well help with this can be found here under genuine lock twist;

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Re: Basic Dog Tutorial

Measure a 6 finger length from the ears and bring the balloon back on itself again. At about the 2 finger point away from the ears twist the balloon together so that the dog ends up with approx an 8 finger fold twist for the front legs.

Measure the body of the dog, it will need to be between 6/8 fingers in length and twist the balloon at this point several times. Bring the balloon back on itself to this twist and measure an 8 finger bubble so that the back legs match the dogs front legs and twist the balloon together at this point making the back legs.

The tail should be approx a 2 finger bubble.

Inflate a 260 Sempertex modelling balloon so that you have approx a 4 finger length un-inflated at the tail end of the balloon.

Bring an 8 finger length portion of the balloon back onto itself as in diagram two.

Then twist the ears into the balloon at about the half way point which will leave your dog with a 4 finger length nose and approx 8 finger fold twist for the ears.

Thelma that looks like a side wall bubble for the bikers nose?
If so I'll put a link from the tutorial section to this so people can see the different twists etc in action so to speak :D

I always say that as long as you can make six things nicely you can make a living as a balloon modeller.
Just put what you make up on a selection board and tell them to pick from the selection and that you've not brought any balloons along to make anything else ;)

Balloon Tutorial & Help / Re: Split Twist
January 27, 2009, 08:54:29 PM
From some lecture notes that I made a few years back, this is another way of making the two ear/pinch twists although this way the ear/pinch twists would be slightly larger than above but which is exactly the same as a split twist
