Are you going to Twist and Shout?  If so, maybe I can catch up to you in the jam room.  :)

Love it Brian! Do I see a new tutorial coming?

I especially liked the slow motion replay of the balloon deflating.  The look on Cody's face was priceless!

Latex Laughs / Star Wars balloons

I did a birthday party yesterday and got asked for a "Annikan Skywalker, holding a light saber, on a hat".   Given the time that I had, I talked him into just the light saber and preceded to make him a big one out of 350's.  He loved it.  A couple of kids later the mom of this child brought the balloon back to me and said "just a suggestion...the next time you make this you might want to put a handguard on it to make it easier to hold".   I replied that I could do that no problem, but most light sabers don't have handguards.  She looked at me very put off and said "well most Jedi's arent' 10 years old".   I couldn't resist so I said "You're absolutely right Ma'am...those are called Padiwans".   Of course I then put a handguard on the light saber.

Thanks,

  Michael

Brian

Had to try this hat out today, so one of my co-workers was willing to model it for me.  Went over really well...thanks again.

Brian,

I would love a tutorial on this hat.  It's just too cool and I've got a ton of spidey prints to use.

Thanks!

Welcome / Re: Hello From Across The Pond!

Suzon,

Ft Walton Beach is in the Florida panhandle, near Pensacola.  I'm about 6-7 hours NW of Tampa.  BTW...There are several big names in balloon twisting down in Tampa.  Mark Byrne and Johnathon Fudge to name a couple.

Anyway, so glad that on the site and enjoying it.

Hi Suzon,

Exactly what part of N.C. are you from?  I'm from Burlington, though I haven't lived there in some time (military).

This is a great bunch of folks...you will learn a ton.

   Welcome!

 Thanks,

   Michael

Balloon Chit Chat / Re: Thoughts from my restaurant gig...
September 14, 2012, 05:43:18 PM
I really like this thread...some good information.  I've been speaking with a lot of restaurants in my area trying to find one or two to be a regular gig.  The area I live in is a big tourist area which would make you think a balloon artist would be a no brainer.   Apparently a couple of years ago there was an older gentleman that dressed as a pirate (beach community) and busked through the area restaurants making simple balloon sculptures.  I've been told that he started hanging around tables too long, pestering customers for tips, etc.  This has left a bad impression of balloon artists with the owners and I've been turned down every time.

I'm gonna keep trying and will post if I finally get one to say yes.

Thanks,

   Michael

Gave this one a go this morning.  Wanted to get at least one sculpture posted before the instructions were out.   It turned out ok, but I know I'm missing something simple.

Thanks,
