Title: September 2010 - Other uses for Balloons
Post by: Danny the Idiot on September 05, 2010, 10:08:07 AM
Hi All,

I had a brainwave last night and would like this months topic of discussion to be about Other Uses of Balloons.

These can be uninflated and inflated shapes of all kind and brand.

To kick off ....
I use three braided uninflated 260's as a suitcase identifier on the handle of my suitcases.

I also have started using uninflated 260s to tie things - plants in the garden and holding a joint of my ancient clothes dryer together.

Lastly i tie my balloons together with balloons, I used to use elastic bands but they kept breaking so now i use scraps of balloons to keep the sorted balloons in a roll in my balloon bag.

What do you folks use scraps of balloons or whole balloons for (apart from Balloon twisting or decorating)?

cheers
Danny

My shoelace went yeaterday so I tied them up with a good old balloon. I also cut myself once and used a balloon to put over the top of my finger till the bleeding stopped, it did work but was on the slightly tight side and when I took the balloon off my finger was a bit on the purple side so if you do this then please be careful.

I also have a braided chain of balloons on my luggage for easy identification. :-)
I mostly use them like rubbler bands to keep things together.  I have used them as a belt for my pants. And, the chain on my toilet flusher broke (inside the tank) and it couldn't be replaced with another chain, so I tied a piece of balloon on it and it worked like a charm.  It lasted about a year...then I finally bought a new toilet...lol.
Oh yeah...I have also used inflated balloons (sometimes simple doggies) as packing material in packages when I mail them.  They hold up surprisingly well and it makes the recipient smile :-)

Whilst camping my husband cut his finger. We had no plasters so ended up using a sanitary towel and a 646q to hold it in place. Inventive I thought and waterproof.!!

Snap - we also have 260 balloons as indentifiers on our suitcases - have done for a few years now.

160 & 260's also make good ties when joining balloons as headers into balloon columns and joining columns to create wall rather than elastic bands and paperclips.

....At trmj 2008 I didn't have any swim shorts to go on the  water slides  , so I used my black boxers with a 260 tied round to hold them up worked a treat!!

I use balloons to tie cables together.

If I'm running short of balloons in my magic box and need to top up ready for my next show I'll tie a 260 to my key ring to remind me . . . . got a terrible memory.

I use balloons to tie my sharpies together when on my holder around my neck.

We had a leak under the sink and I used a 160 as plumbers tape..worked fine.

Working in Southend over the weekend and one of the pirate acts was having trouble with his boots slipping down, a good old 260 sorted it out.

Almost used an uninflated 660 as a blindfold this weekend--parent asked for inflated balloon which I immediately nixed. Then another parent found a headband. And before you go weird places--the blindfold was for pinata busting, of course....

Also, use balloons to tie my pumps and scissors to hang down from my fanny pack strap (which carries my biz cards, money, keys, breath mints and other tiny assorted stuff). Tried other things but they kept breaking through my abuse.

A couple of tips for tips!
I used a 260 balloon tip as a replacement cap for the nozzle on a can of 3-in-1 oil. Also a 350 tip as a temporary cap for a a sharpie till the lost one turned up.

I've just seen another use for the bags the balloons come in.  Apparently a balloon decorator in the USA has crochet the bags into a shopping bag / tote.  Most impressive although I suspect a bit hard going on your hands if it's full. It's in the latest balloon images if anyone is interested.

I tie one end of a 260 to my house key and the other to my belt loop. I open the door and the key jumps right back to my side. Also makes finding the key with full hands much easier.

When I was crashing at a friends he clogged his toilet. I inflated a 260 and handed it to him. Turns out they can snake a drain pretty well.

As always,
Dylan

As a weapon.... Snap grabby kids hands when reaching into my balloons.

A great substitute for Duct Tape.

I wrap a balloon around the end of my Kazoo so I don't chip my teeth.

A nozzle as a nasal Dialator... really!

My children have pillows filled with balloons ... they say it smells like daddy?

Jewelry my kids make craft bracelets with balloons

Fill with sand for a stress ball or a weight, also juggling ball

Tip on the end of a table so not to scratch the floor.

If you are doing lots of balloons on sticks, use an uninflated round to stuff the end of the sticks in. You'l get about 10 in there.

I have 3 categories: 1. I make earrings and bracelets 2. For noses and middle of flowers and 3. Use all the un-useable scraps for pictures (So instead of using paint I will use balloons) - I'm just gathering all the scraps up at the moment. I throw nothing away. I will post pictures soon. I love all the other uses in this thread!

This doesn't really fall into this category, but I wasn't sure where else to post it...it's not another use for a balloon but....I did use my salad spinner the other day to spin dry my juggling balls when they got wet, well soaked really, after working 'under cover' (I use that phrase very loosely) on a very wet, stormy day. (My washing machine was already being used.) It did the job brilliantly...and then I lined them up neatly on top of the radiator to finish off-and they were ready for action the next day, result!
